Car Seat Safety

Maine law requires that children ride in an appropriate child safety seat. If cost is a concern, parents/guardians should call the Bureau of Highway Safety at 207-626-3840 and ask about qualifying for a free car seat. (If you are expecting a child, this should be done prior to the baby’s arrival.)

Installed child safety seats should be checked at a car seat inspection station. Visit the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety at www.maine.gov/dps/bhs or call 207-624-8756 for information on Child Passenger Distribution and Inspection sites.
